Many of us are familiar with cannabis with its psychoactive and calming effect, but not many of us knew what was directly causing that. Due to the innovation and research that has exploded with The Green Movement in California researched have found approx over 120. Out of all of the ones that have been discovered there are 6 cannabinoids (see image above) that are famous in cannabis for its effects.

Cannabinoids work in the body by connected to the CB1 and CB2 receptors which creates the endocannabinoid system.

CB1 Receptors are many located in the brain and spinal cord, but can be found in other places in the body. CB2 Receptors are many located on white blood cells of the immune system, and can be found in other parts as well, but primarily in white blood cells.

These receptors work by attaching to different cannabinoids when they enter the body.

There are 2 main cannabinoids responsible for psychoactive effects:

THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol – This is the main psychoactive cannibinoid in cannabis that connects to the CB1 receptor which results in the high you feel when consuming cannabis products. A lot of cannabis products with the new state regulations have THCA(Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) listed as well which is THC before it is decarboxylated.

Effects/ Benefits of THC include: Anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, psychotropic, anti-microbial, nausea relief, spasms relief, increases appetite, pain relief.

(Decarboxylation is the process of apply heat to cannabis products to active their compounds. i.e. THCA turns into THC when heat is applied)

THCV – Tetrahydrocannabivarin – This closely relates to THC when it comes to cannabinoids and connected the CB1 receptors as well, in low dosage does not give pyschoactive effects but in high enough dosage will mimic THC.

Effects/ Benefits: Aids memory, appetite suppressant, anti-viral, bone stimulant, decreases seizures, anti-bacterial, calming aid.

THCV is more prevalent is African descendant strains such as: Durban Poison, Doug’s Varin, Pineapple Purps, Jack the Ripper, Durban Cheese, and many more.

There are 4 main cannabinoids responsible for their health benefits and calming effect:

CBN – Cannabinol – This non intoxicating cannabinoid is the degraded form of THC. THC degradates over time and turns onto CBN which is great for sleep. This cannabinoid connects to the CB2 receptor in your body when consumed.

Effects/ Benefits: Analgesic, anti-anxiety, causes drowsiness, anesthetic, anti-convulsion, pain relief, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, spasms relief, Neuroprotectant.

CBD – Cannabidiol – Another non intoxicating cannibinoid found in cannabis that connects to the CB2 receptor in your body. CBD is extracted and available in gummies, oils and concentrates for its healing properties.

Effects/ Benefits: reduces anxiety, manage stress, pain relief, antioxidant, increases appetite, muscle relaxant, decreases seizures, spasms relief.

CBG – Cannabigerol – This is a less known cannabinoid because of its low presence in cannabis, but still still an amazing cannabinoid with great benefits. It works to help balance your body systems which is called homeostasis, as well as helps with individuals digestive systems. This cannabinoid uses the CB2 receptor to connected to your body when consumed.

Effects/Benefits: Anti-erythemic, digestive aid, pain killer, bone stimulant, lowers blood pressure, antioxidant.
